Paper Drive in September
Our annual competition between congregations will be September 1st through October 6th . Central Avenue Center of Hope continues to respond to the mission initiative of “abolishing poverty and end suffering”. Thousands of meals are served each year to individuals and families through your continued generosity. The traveling trophy will be presented at the Fall Midlands Mission Center Conference. We will be collecting:
8-9 in. foam plates 5-6 in. foam plates
8 oz. foam cups 12 oz. foam bowls
Napkins Foam carry-out containers
Sporks Toilet Paper & Paper Towels
Lunch at Center of Hope
The Olathe congregation will be preparing and serving lunch at the Center of Hope on Monday, October 21st. If you can help, please see Sharon Robertson. Donations may be given to Sharon Robertson or Lois Viers.
Children’s Choir practice are Sundays at 9:15 a.m., upstairs in the choir room. Plenty of treats for all our singers!! Our first performance will be September 29. We will also be singing November 10.
Women’s Book Club
The Women’s Book Club will meet next on Thursday, October 24th at 7:00 p.m. at Michelle Lundy’s home. We are reading The Seven or Eight Deaths of Stella Fortuna by by Juliet Grames. It is available at the public library in many formats. All women are invited to attend this fellowship.
There will be a Pot Luck Lunch after the service September 29. Bring a dish or two to share and table service for your family.
Sunday, September 29 there will be a youth activity after the potluck for the juniors, junior high, and senior high. We are going to be spreading mulch, planting bulbs, and picking up trash. Kids need to dress appropriately for the weather. If anyone would like to donate a bag of daffodil or tulip bulbs we would greatly appreciate it!!
Cherubs and Juniors
On Sunday, October 27 after church, the Cherubs and Juniors will be going to the Pumpkin Patch. Please bring your own lunch and a change of clothes. Pick your kiddos up at the church at 3:00 p.m.
Temple School Class
Introduction to Scripture is going to be offered at the Highlands congregation on two consecutive Saturdays, November 9 and November 16 from 8:30 am to 5:00 pm. Facilitator will be Bishop Kees Compier. This course will satisfy one of the three required classes needed for ordination of newly called priesthood and is open to anyone in the mission center to attend. The session will include scripture study and learning to use various research aids as tools to explore scriptures for both personal use and sermon preparation. Attendees should bring their scriptures and the Introduction to Scripture resource textbook available for purchase from Herald House in either PDF or printed format. Please RSVP for this class by October 26 to allow for adequate preparation for materials by the instructor. Reservations for the class can be made to the Highlands office.
